We hereby dub July 16-18 Get to Know your Local Artists Weekend.

Kicking it off on July 16 is the 6:30 p.m. opening reception for Portalism: New Moves by WonderRoot’s 2014/15 Walthall Artist Fellows at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCAGA). The 11 Walthall Fellows will present new work, some of it evolving throughout the reception. On July 17 MOCA GA will open Nightingales: Film and Mixed Media Work by Jonathan Bouknight, a Working Artist Project grant recipient. The museum will announce next year’s WAP artists during the 6:30-8:30 pm reception.

All events at MOCA GA this weekend are free.

Sprawl! Drawing outside the Lines, an exhibition of work by 75 metro artists, will open July 18 at the High Museum. The much anticipated sequel to the 2013 exhibition Drawing Inside the Perimeter, it is important not only in its breadth but also because all the works have been acquired by the High for its permanent collection.
