Cathy Callaway Adams, executive vice president and chief operations officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, has replaced Bill Tucker as the chair of the Atlanta Opera’s board of directors.

Tucker stepped down after five years as the chair, part of the leadership team that hired Tomer Zvulun as the opera’s general and artistic director, a move that has revitalized what until recently was a struggling opera company.

“We are profoundly grateful for Bill Tucker’s leadership,” Zvulun said in a press release. “He, along with treasurer Rhys Wilson, is responsible for putting the company on solid financial footing and ushering the Atlanta Opera into a new day.”

Tucker will remain on the board.

Adams is an active musician, who studied piano performance and business administration at Tift College. She also has an MBA from Georgia State University. A board member since 2011, Adams joined the Federal Home Loan Bank in 1986. She is a native of Lyons.

“I am energized to see that Cathy Adams, who has successfully led the company’s strategic plan into completion last month, is taking the reins as chair,” Zvulun said. “Her dynamic and energetic personality will help propel the Atlanta Opera to the next level and cement our position as a vital leader of opera in America.”
