MODA-2221_DesignConvo-web2

The Museum of Design Atlanta opened its splendid new digs in March, and it has moved as fast as one of those red Ducatis in its inaugural Italian motorcycle exhibition to become a community center for design.

“Drink in Design,” its weekly Thursday cocktail hour, featuring an array of speakers and performances, has been up and running for two months. On Tuesday, May 10, ArtsCriticATL will help MODA inaugurate a new program: “Design Conversations,” a monthly speaker series.

ArtsCriticATL design expert Jonathan Lerner, who also writes for such national magazines as Miller-McCune, Landscape Architecture and Metropolis, and I will talk about our ideas and experiences as critics from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a reception. Advance ticketing is recommended because seating is limited.

Upcoming “Drink in Design” programs:

Thursday, May 12. Jubal’s Lyre, an artist development company dedicated to furthering the careers of Atlanta opera singers, will hold a performance. Soprano Perri Montane, tenor Timothy Miller and baritone Chris Connelly will sing highlights from Puccini’s “Tosca.”

Thursday, May 19. Paul Gregory of Atlanta Motorcycle and Repair will give a demonstration of mechanics on the plaza. He will disassemble one Vespa scooter and reassemble another, enhancing it with paint and racing parts.
